Pelmeški’s menu is small but you’ll be wanting to try everything on it, and the dumplings are surprisingly filling. Get them topped with sour cream and green onion to make it really authentic. The chef’s also got dessert covered, with sweet berry dumplings. Open weekdays 11am to 7pm.
This is a great place to get a taste of Czech cuisine. At Moravska Chalupa, traditional dishes have been updated with a modern twist, but the restaurant still retains that authentic home-cooked vibe. If you’re a meat eater, definitely opt for the hot lava steaks which you cook for yourself on stones at the table. Save room for dessert too, because the knedliki (dumplings) are out of this world. This pub down by Ostrava’s river is the place to be during summer. It’s got the cosy, laid-back vibe of a pub, but serves up excellent meals and has a huge drinks list. See if you can get a spot on the terrace overlooking the water and sip a local beer drink in the sun. Not feeling beer? Their raspberry lemonade is legendary amongst locals. This traditional restaurant is located just outside Ostrava, in a small city called Opava. A historical capital packed with architectural delights, it’s well worth a half-day trip, and when you get hungry, U Přemka will be waiting for you with a huge menu of delicious local food. If you’re not driving, definitely explore their local wine list too. Open Monday to Thursday 3pm to 10pm, Friday 3pm to 2am and Saturday 5pm to 1am. Closed Sunday.
