Liberec was once the capital of the German-speaking Sudetenland, and the best traditions of German and Austrian cafe culture shine through in Liberec’s old town centre. Take to the cobblestone streets and you’ll find no shortage of picturesque cafes and hearty breakfast joints, but here are six of our absolute favourite places to get your morning fix.

Jedno Café
A cosy yet stylishly furnished spot with delicious freshly brewed coffee just off the main square, a stone’s throw from the Liberec Town Hall, Jedno Cafe is an ideal spot to start a day of sightseeing or take a break from the attractions of the city centre. With the full complement of drip-filter coffee machines, and a selection of exceptional cakes and pastries (the cheesecake is particularly delicious!), this is a lovely spot to refresh and refuel. Open Monday to Friday 7.30am to 7pm, and Saturday 9am to 5pm.
Kafe Kytka
The beautiful floral interior of Kafe Kytka is the perfect reflection of its name (The Flower Cafe, in English). Right in the heart of Liberec’s beautiful Old Town, this charming spot serves up great coffee, delicious cakes, and a lovely atmosphere, made even more glorious by the florist’s shop situated in the back which gives the cafe a beautiful aroma. The small lunch menu makes this a great place at any time of the day. Open Monday to Thursday 9am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 9am to 9pm, and Sunday 1pm to 8pm.
Mikyna Coffee
With locally roasted coffee and a superb menu of home-cooked treats, Mikyna Coffee is quite a find. The minimalist yet welcoming interior adds a nice touch to the extremely pleasant atmosphere, and the homemade lemonades made with fresh fruit and herbs from their own garden are the perfect antidote to a long, hot day of sightseeing. This is definitely one of the nicest spots in town to take the weight off. Open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 5pm.
Bez Konceptu
Tucked away in the university area of town, Bez Konceptu is by no means just a student coffee spot. Freshly roasted coffee and excellent breakfasts sit alongside a good selection of wines and some stunning homemade desserts, making this a great destination for students, locals and tourists alike. The friendly staff and occasional art exhibitions complete the warm, welcoming vibe of this top little cafe. Open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, and weekends 9am to 8pm.
Sweet City
The home of Liberec’s local coffee roastery Nordbeans, Sweet City has a claim to serve up the best, or at least the freshest coffee in town. You can also take a tour of the roastery, which is a treat in itself, or just relax in the delightfully decorated space with a cup of great tasting coffee and something delicious from the menu. Open Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm, and Sunday 1pm to 6pm.
Saber
For breakfast in Liberec it is hard to beat Saber cafe. With an excellent menu of cooked breakfasts relying heavily on locally sourced ingredients from regional farmers, and a great selection of freshly squeezed juices, this is the perfect place to jump-start your morning. The outdoor seating is a lovely touch on a sunny day. Open Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm, and Saturday 7am to 1pm.
