Bordeaux Fete le Fleuve 2021

The Garonne River has been an enormous part of the life of this city throughout the history of Bordeaux. It was used as the fastest way to travel throughout Aquitaine and southern France during Roman times, and has been the lifeblood and main artery of the region ever since. The Fete le Fleuve takes place every other year (alternating with the Bordeaux Wine Festival), and is a celebration of the river, and an amazing spectacle of water sports, sailing and river-based entertainment. Featuring shows, river trips, concerts, feasts, fireworks, and a traditional mass swim across the Garonne to round the whole thing off.

Jumping International de Bordeaux 2020

Marathon du Médoc 2020

One of the most well known and most bizarre running races in the world, and probably one of the weirdest and most wonderful sporting events full stop. The Marathon du Medoc combines a stunningly beautiful marathon course through the rolling countryside and gorgeous vineyards just outside Bordeaux with the region’s most famous produce, wine. It is considered ‘the longest marathon in the world’, as scattered throughout the course are 23 wine tasting stops, 50 orchestras providing musical accompaniment, an oyster stop at the 38th kilometre, and a steak dinner at the 39th. Over 8,500 people participate, mostly in costume, and the event is an exciting celebration of marathon running and gourmand culture.
