The home of country music

Tamworth is world famous as the country music capital of Australia, and rightly so. It revels in its association with the music of the cowboy, with its internationally recognised festivals, country-themed museum, and Golden Guitar.

But this vibrant, exciting town in the heart of abundant farmlands has a lot more to offer than just tassels and ten-gallon hats. This is a handsome town, set back from the Peel River a wealth of museums and cultural offerings, including a great regional art gallery and a motorcycle museum.

High quality cafes and restaurants fill the attractive streets, with coffee spots like The Garden Shed and the Hissy Fits Cafe rubbing shoulders with quirkier offerings like the Teamo Teahouse. When it comes to dining, Tamworth really excels, with marvellous Modern Australian menus at the Glasshouse, superb European flavours at Le Pruneau, and classic yet upmarket pub grub at The Tamworth.

After dark, the adventurous and lively spirit that drives this city’s love of country music comes to the fore, and a great range of pubs, bars and clubs like The Welder’s Dog, the Longyard and Moonshiners gives an exciting edge to the nightlife here.

While many, if not most visitors will rightly come to Tamworth for its country connections, it is a great little city with loads more to offer, and one that rewards a more thorough investigation.
