A Local Favorite – Caffe Beano
When thinking of Cafes in Calgary, Caffe Beano is one of the first to come to mind. In business for more than 30 years, they are the second oldest independent coffee shop in the city and located in the heart of Calgary’s 17th Avenue. A popular spot with loyal locals, they serve customers 365 days a year. A great place for coffee, baked goods, or both, the chocolate espresso milkshake is a must-try. It is safe to say that Caffe Beano hasn’t stuck around this long for no reason.
Whether visiting, new to the area, or new to the coffee scene, this place provides a local vibe like no other. Since great conversations from indoors usually spill out onto the sidewalk, it will be hard to miss!

Experience A Unique Cafe Setting – Neighbour Coffee
Originally opening in 2017 as a grab & go establishment, Neighbour Coffee recently undertook a renovation that now makes the space look more like a minimalist greenhouse with seating for its clientele. Along with its new (more Instagram-worthy) look, this Altadore area Cafe also went ahead and expanded its menu to feature breakfast and lunch items that include rice bowls, soups, salads, smoothies, and more. Despite being based on the west coast, their coffee is inspired by Eastern Canada, more specifically, Anchorage Coffee, a business in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Even though they’ve only been around for a few short years, Neighbour coffee has quickly become a Calgary favorite. When looking to support small businesses in Calgary, be sure to add this Cafe to your itinerary.

A Cafe with A Side of Historical Significance – Little Brick Cafe & General Store
As the name may suggest, Little Brick Cafe & General Store is located in an old brick house. Built in the River Valley in 1903, you may be surprised to learn that this location is the former family home of J.B. Little, the man who owned the on-site brickyard. He made and provided bricks for the renovation and construction of some of Edmonton’s historical buildings. In the heart of Edmonton, the house with the red bricks still stands today. Though it now operates as a popular local cafe, there are a few unique characteristics that make it stand out from other small businesses in Edmonton. Of course, locals and visitors will find amazing coffee and baked goods here, but there is also a fantastic selection of food to satisfy both your breakfast and lunch desires. Did we mention their food is always fresh and predominantly sourced from local farms? During all seasons of the year, guests can eat outdoors in the popular backyard area which has been home to some great conversations that have probably gone on for longer than they should have!
Perhaps what makes Little Brick most unique is its on-site general store. Going beyond its function as a cafe, they also have shelves stocked with baking ingredients, basic groceries, body-hygiene products, and houseware. When permitted, they also have event space for rent.
