Everyone who visits Venice makes a stop at St Mark’s Square at least once on their trip — and with good reason! It’s a beautiful open piazza, home to shops, cafes, the Doge’s Palace and a magnificent basilica. But to get an even better perspective of the square, scale the church’s belltower. The nearly 100-metre tall structure looms over the surrounding buildings, offering incredible views of the sprawling floating city. The line can get long during peak times, but you can pay a little extra and reserve skip-the-queue tickets online. Open daily 9.45am to 7pm.
