While the Rialto is arguably Venice’s most famous bridge, Ponte dei Pugni — which literally means ‘bridge of fists’ — is well worth a visit. In the 17th century, each autumn, this was the spot where Venetians of opposing clans would meet up to settle arguments with fist fights. Nowadays, things are a lot more calm! But marble footprints in the pavement still mark the place where the fighters would stand before the fight began.
