Venice is home to some amazing architecture, but the Bovolo Staircase is really something special. A little hidden away, and set on the outside of a small palace, it was built over 500 years ago but is in remarkable condition even today. The spiral layering of loggias almost looks like an optical illusion, and it’s not surprising to find out that “bovolo” means snail in Italian! You can walk up and down the stairs if you buy an entry ticket to the palace’s museum. Open daily 10am to 6pm.
