Another historical abode of Hungary's great writers, this beautiful café is popular and a must to complete any Budapest visit.
Eggs Benedict lovers will be delighted at this marvellous café's version. And the coffee's not bad too.
Very nice upscale café with a splendid selection of coffees, snacks and cuisine. Exclusive and worth it.
Café Gerbeaud is a monument to style, grandeur and glorious tradition. Housed in a magnificent building in Pest, Gerbeaud has been an important part of Budapest’s café culture and social life for over a century. The headlines here are all about the sweet stuff; the Gerbeaud cake, ground walnuts and jam filling between layers of chocolate covered sponge, and the konyakmeggy, alcoholic sour cherries covered in dark chocolate. A must visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. Open daily 9am to 9pm.
A true piece of history, Ruszwurm has been in operation since 1827, and is a little slice of Baroque excellence. Empress Sisi sent couriers here to collect cakes for her breakfast, and the owner learned to make the famous Linzer biscuits while he was imprisoned after the 1848/49 Revolution. These days it is a snug, cosy place serving up traditional Hungarian goodies to local customers, tourists, and possibly still the odd Empress every now and again! Open daily 10am to 6pm.
