Perched on a hill to the south of Bielefeld, dates all the way back to the 13th century. From its walls you get great views down over the city and out to the forest beyond, or you can climb the tower and get an even better panorama. If you’re in Westphalia during the summer months, you can explore the castle’s subterranean passages — and maybe your visit will even coincide with the annual medieval Sparrenburg festival! Open daily 10am to 6pm. Only open weekends from November to March.
