The first Munich Opera Festival was held in 1875.
Tollwood is a fascinating event, part gathering of activists and innovators, part multicultural celebration and part music festival. Since the 1980s the festival has gathered a truly staggering range of musicians, artists, chefs, intellectuals, activists, and artisans to create a melting pot of ideas, food, culture and action. The festival runs for around 25 days, with over 50 food stalls, 250 craft stalls, and a huge and varied programme of music, performance, drama and art. The festival also functions as a forum for environmental awareness and climate activism, with talks, lectures and workshops throughout the month. Progressive, eclectic and eye-opening, Tollwood is a remarkable expression of openness, tolerance and internationalism, and an experience to savour.
