The world’s largest model railway may not excite everyone at first glance, but this wonderful oddity has become Hamburg’s main highlight, and is regularly voted one of the best tourist attractions in Germany. The exhibit is a partly fictional recreation of a number of European countries, including mountains, cities and a miniature airport. It covers over 2,300 square metres, and includes 1,300 trains and 400,000 human figurines. A genuinely charming curiosity. Open daily at least from 9am to 6.30pm.
