The Festwochen is a long-established high point of the Vienna cultural calendar, and an event that comes with a rich history. Established in 1951, the festival was originally designed to showcase the city’s will to survive, and to demonstrate that the horrors of the Second World War had not diminished Vienna’s status of a city of art and culture. These days it is a celebration of Vienna’s modern status as a cultural metropolis, and features a remarkable programme of theatre, concerts, recitals and performances from across the artistic and cultural spectrum. Innovative and constantly evolving, the festival is a great exhibition of Austria’s rich cultural scene.
