Kootingal Country Fair 2020
A small town a few kilometres north east of Tamworth, nestled beneath the beautiful Moonbi mountain range, Kootingal’s main claim to fame is its pumpkin growing. But with the arrival of spring, the town bursts into life with an excellent Country Fair, celebrating Father’s Day and the changing of the seasons. The Fair features great market stalls, superb live music and entertainment, a wealth of kid-friendly activities like bouncy castles and a monkey maze, and a vintage car display from the Kootingal Motor Club and Manila Small Engines Group. There’s even a circus tent, with thrilling performers and amazing tricks. A great day out for the whole family.

Tamworth Iron Cowboy 2020
If you are in the market for a serious shot of adrenaline-fuelled excitement, a little danger and some huge thrills, then the Iron Cowboy is the night for you. The Professional Bull Riders of Australia bring a night of one of the toughest sporting events around, as Australia’s most elite, carefully bred and trained bucking bulls and the best riders in the world go head to head for the prize. Unlike tradition PBR events, this is a straight up elimination event, with no room for mistakes. Tamworth Country Music Festival 2020
The largest music festival in the southern hemisphere, one of the top ten largest in the world, and the beating heart of Tamworth’s position as the country music capital of Australia, the Tamworth Country Music Festival is a big deal. For ten days every January, the entire city is conquered by country, with over 800 performers and 4,000 shows in 120 venues across the city. There are over 600 buskers on Peel Street alone, and with 55,000 visitors for the festival, this is an extraordinary event. The finest country musicians from around the world will be here, so make sure you are too.

Nundle Go For Gold Festival 2020
The historic gold rush town of Nundle comes to life at Easter with the Nundle Go For Gold Festival, celebrating the town’s rich history of gold mining, as well as the heritage and culture of its vibrant Chinese community. The Chinese arrived in Nundle during the gold rush, and are a huge part of the town’s history, heritage and culture. Go For Gold features a wealth of fascinating cultural traditions, including Chinese dancers and musicians, goldfields-themed street theatre, hundreds of market stalls with arts, crafts, food and refreshments, and the chance to pan for gold yourself! A wonderful appreciation of the history and culture of this historic town.

Currabubula Art Show 2020
Every year the wonderful heritage setting of the Currabubula Memorial Hall is transformed into a paradise for lovers of art and culture. Sponsored by the Red Cross, the show brings together some of the best, most exciting artworks from the local region and from across Australia, in a beautiful and historic setting. Having been running for over 55 years, and raising vast funds for the Red Cross, the Currabubula Art Show is really now more than just an exhibition of great art, but rather a huge community endeavor. Throughout the weekend, local market stalls provide artisanal products for sale, as well as food and refreshments, making it a great day out as well as a charming cultural experience.

The OTHER country music festival in Tamworth, Hats Off To Country provides a cooler, more refreshing alternative to the blistering summer heat of January, while also serving up an impressive array of the best of country and western music from across Australia and around the world. Four big days and nights provide a showcase for over 100 individual country acts, but the vibe is rather more intimate than its bigger, brasher sibling, which can be a pleasant relief for some. Hats Off To Country keeps the vibe going with a mid-year boost, and is a great way to dip your toes into the waters of Australian country music.
