This Is Not Art is a national festival of new media and arts, organised in Newcastle since 1998. An incredibly creative and alternative four day program aims to celebrate Newcastle as a leading creative city, and imprint its distinctive brand of creative art, music, writing and performance in venues across the city. This Is Not Art is dedicated to exhibiting and celebrating work by artists not generally recognised by or included in other major Australian festivals, which gives it a unique and alternative feel. Artists and performers from across the country use it as a platform to inspire, share and express their ideas to the audience.
