Despite the Italian-tinged name, Sorrento’s is devoted to the finest in Modern Australian cuisine, along with dashes of global favourites too. Set in the historic and rather fancy old Post Office building, their menu is inspired by local produce from the Limestone Coast. The atmosphere is chilled and welcoming, and the food is absolutely top shelf. Particularly captivating is their gelati, a nod to their Italian monniker! Open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm, and Sunday 8am to 9pm.
Wild Ginger Thai
A truly authentic Thai restaurant with a gold-fringed glamorous elegance to it, Wild Ginger is firm local favourite for its delicious curries and splendidly ornate atmosphere. There’s a real passion for food on show here, and the blend of locally-sourced Australian produce with the rich, punchy flavours of Thailand makes for a pretty special dining experience (the crispy skin barramundi is a particular highlight!). Open for lunch Thursday to Friday from 11:30am to 2pm, and for dinner Tuesday to Saturday 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Right on top of the city, at one of the highest points in Mount Gambier, the restaurant offers some of the most gorgeous views available. The food is a treat as well, perfectly cooked and artfully presented, to make this a real treat for both eyes and stomach. Open for lunch Tuesday to Friday from 12pm to 3pm, and dinner Tuesday to Saturday 6pm to 11pm.
