Cafe Melzar, tucked away down a quiet little laneway, is actually quite hard to find, but well worth the trouble when you do! A small spot devoted to great coffee, it’s the perfect place to hang out on its outside benches overlooking a patch of faux grass, and pep yourself up with a hot cup of the good stuff. Serving locally roasted Mikro coffee and some tasty breakfast options, this hidden nook is a real winner. Open Tuesday to Friday from 7:30am to 3pm, Saturday 8am to 2pm, and Sunday 8am to 1pm.
A mainstay of Mount Gambier’s burgeoning cafe scene, and probably the most popular coffee joint in town, Metro Bakery is a must-visit. Right in the heart of town on the busy main street, the cafe has a dynamic buzz to it all day long. Stylish monochrome decor compliments its excellent coffee and delicious menu choices, from pastries and sandwiches to heftier mains. There’s even a decent selection of wine if that takes your fancy! Little Saigon is a little slice of Vietnamese joy on Mount Gambier’s Sturt St. Their coffee is excellent, Australian-grown and locally roasted by Seven Miles, and their combo of Vietnamese and Australian food on their well-put together menu is a treat. With a delightful backyard garden this is a fabulous space to spend a sunny day, with a cup of local coffee, and something more exotic to snack on! Open Monday to Friday from 7am to 4pm, and Saturday 8am to 2pm.
