The city-wide Easter Festival, formally known as Bendigo Easter Fair, is a huge part of Bendigo’s cultural calendar, and a fascinating exploration of its rich and interesting history. The festival has taken place since 1871, and is a celebration of the diverse community of Bendigo. The Easter Procession includes Sun Loong, the longest imperial Chinese dragon in the world, dancing through the streets, and the whole festival has a distinctly Oriental feel to it. Alongside the procession there are musical performances, theatre, art exhibitions, markets and a carnival that takes over huge parts of the city. The three-day festival normally attracts around 100,000 people, and is a hugely popular part of Bendigo’s events programme.
